Hibbard PTO 2010-2011

We have done a lot this year as a PTO. Thank you all for coming to the Halloween Carnival and supporting the other programs we implemented this year. Here is a list of activities that the PTO have been doing:

*Fun Run- This was sponsored by Madison Chiropractic and they donate all of the entrance fees 100% from each child to that child’s school. We had a showing, but not very many. Hopefully next year, we can have more. This money goes straight to PE.

*Halloween Carnival- October 29th, headed by Stacy Miller. This is going to be a fun event with root beer floats, games and we want to limit our fundraisers so this have a minimal cost on the card that will cover the prizes but no more. We want everyone to be able to come and enjoy themselves.

*Our main two fundraisers will be the “I support Hibbard” stickers (donated cash at 99.9% profit) and the spring auction(donated goods). The book fair in the fall all goes to the library so Maria can have books and the one in the spring is a buy one get one free so there is absolutely no profit, but we want to encourage reading and get more books into homes at better prices.

*T-shirts will be done by Malia Kinghorn

*Yearbooks will be headed up by Mary Ivie

*Friday Art Teachers- are Bonnie Fransen and Virginia Dye with an amazing art curriculum that will give the students tools to grow artisit

*Friday Science Teachers- are Lisa Hardy and Brandi Lofgran. These programs are incredible and these 4 woman are really talented. We have already had a week of each and the kids hopefully have come home and told you about the neat things they are doing. We had a Science field trip 2 miles away from the school in a wetland on Friday, the 24th. 1st and 2nd graders due to recess being at different times and gym use, we have them taking art and science on Thursdays from 8:30- 10:15. Thanks also to the assistants who come and support the science and art classes. The help is needed to keep these classes running smoothly.

*Minute Math Mastery- All folders are ready and passed out to the teachers along with dry erase markers and they practice from Monday - Thursday and take the timed test on Friday. Great Math moms come on Friday to grade the student’s 50 question test and help each child progress at their own pace.

*Hawk Bucks- this program is new and children receive hawk bucks for doing kind and noble acts, serving others, amazing academic achievement, impressive behavior in a class, bringing in 10 box tops= 1 hawk buck (assuming that one student doesn't take up the entire teacher's stock, then the teacher needs to give less. But remember that the box tops go straight to the teachers so sending them in supports your teacher. The first day of the store was the beginning of October and the kids were really excited to purchase items. The store is going to be run by Mrs. Fitzpatrick on Wednesday from 10-10:25 during their first recess. Our school has great kids and this is a chance for teachers to show their appreciation for good behavior and reward it.

*Back to School Bash/Field day is going to be moved back to the Spring since the tradition is very strong and we want the kids to have something to look forward to at the end of the year and frankly, the weather hasn’t been better on this end of Fall as opposed to Spring.

*Fall Book Fair – will be headed up by Mrs. Hirschi and will be held during the week of November 15th-19th. Proceeds go to the library.

*Spirit Days- We will be wearing red on Fridays. We have a spirit stick that is hung in front of the class when everyone in the class wears red.

*We sold $90 worth of paper on Back to School Night and Mr. Boice is using the money to get better prices in bulk, it will buy even more paper for the teachers than anticipated. The teachers were really touched and it meant a lot to them to see the support from the community for them personally.

*We raised around $260 in stickers at Back to School Night which brings our total from stickers alone to $1260. Tracy Lewis has been spearheading the stickers and doing a phenomenal job. If you would like to sell some stickers to businesses or friends, please email me and I will forward it to Tracy.

*PE- We have a PE program this year with Jeanetta Mosley teaching our kids great physical health. We only need to the share the cost of our PE teacher with the other elementary schools so that means instead of the $3000 we thought we needed, we need to pay $1750. But PE is worth it and the teachers said it was the number one PTO could do for them, so it became our number one priority.

*The Hibbard website is up and running thanks to Marie Atkinson, the librarian. So you can find teachers emails and student of the week on there. http://web.d321.k12.id.us/php/HE/info.html. Speaking of the library, Mrs. Atkinson got great shelves donated from the Madison Library and our library looks fantastic.

*The Book Fair- November 15th- 18th. We will have a fun afternoon book fair event on Wednesday, November 17th from 2-5 p.m.. Kohls is coming to help with this event and then they donate $500 to our fundraiser.

*Museum of Idaho- Thursday, November 4th - 1st and 2nd graders go and on November 5th, 3rd and 4th graders will attend the museum. They will see the inventions and drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. This is exciting because the museum has a limited grant for busing students that we were able to receive. So they are paying for our expensive $740 bus ride. Thank you Museum of Idaho.
